Run from the heart of the Himalayas to the great Stupa of Boudhanath in Kathmandu
From: 1.460€
This is a combined program for lovers of running through the mountains, leaving the competitions and the most marked trails, to return to the essence of trailrunning.
The idea is simple and tempting: go to the Langtang valley, to touch of Tibet, a current route from the heart of the Himalayas to Kathmandu, passing through the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda to reach the great stupa of Boudhanath.
The most important thing is to get to Kathmandu regardless of our level, that’s why we have prepared a somewhat more complex logistics than that of a conventional trekking. There will be two groups: one of runners and the other of trekk, which we will coincide most days allowing group jump depending on the needs of each one. In the same way, the strongest runners will have different extensions of the route so that no one is left wanting more.
Leave the bib at home and prepare to discover Nepal in a different way.
More Detalls
Day 1:
Departure flight to Kathmandu.
Day 2:
Arrival in Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon: we can visit the stupa of Swayambhu (temple of the monkeys), get lost in the streets of the Thamel or have dinner our first Dal bhat (the most traditional dish of Nepali cuisine).
Day 3.
Pick up at the hotel and transfer of the entire group by private bus to Syapru Besi. The journey of between 5 and 6 hours by road will take us to the last town before reaching Tibet. In the afternoon we can go to visit a small stupa located near the town. On the right hand side, the Langtang valley begins and on the left, a region little frequented by tourists and inhabited by Tamangs (Tibetan refugees).
Day 4:
Today the whole group will start the first day of the tour. It is very important not to force too much the first few days in order to guarantee a good acclimatization. Hence, this first day has been planned as a comfortable walk for the whole group through the tropical forests of the lower Langtang Valley. We will cross rhododendron forests, we will see the first yaks and if we are attentive, we will see the first wild monkeys.
In a maximum of 5h of comfortable walking we will arrive at Lama Hotel, after having passed through other small towns in the valley (Domen and Bamboo).
Day 5:
Today the group is divided for the first time. The trekking group, we will go back a section of the way up to head towards Thulin Syabru (2,214m), we will leave the bamboo forests to arrive after about 5 hours to the rice terraces that surround the town.
The running group will continue acclimatizing and after crossing the remains of the great avalanche that buried the town during the 2015 earthquake we will arrive after 4 hours on the way to the new Langtang Vilage (3,450m).
Those runners who are well and have no discomfort due to the altitude will go up to Kyanging Gompa where we can visit the yak cheese factory in the town and see the spectacular sunset of the Ganchempo (6,387m) to go down to Langtang to sleep. Vilage already at night. For those who always want more, there is the option of climbing to a peak near the town, the Kyanging Ri (4,561m) from where we will have impressive views of the East face of the Langtang Lirung (7,227m).
Day 6:
The trekking group will be able to enjoy a less demanding day, although we will soon discover that more than 1,200m of ascent to Chandambari no one gives them away. In about 4 hours we will be able to reach this town and visit the Buddhist monastery of Shing Gomba (3,330m).
Today the running group will descend the entire Langtang valley and begin to climb towards Gosainkunda to reach Thulin Syabru (the town where the trekking group slept the night before).
Day 7:
Today the two groups will meet again in the afternoon to have dinner together and tell each other about the experiences lived these two days. We will do it in a very special place for Buddhists: the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda. Here the god Shiva is venerated and pilgrims from all over the world come to make a ritual bath in its frozen waters to purify themselves.
The trekking group can be reached in about 5 hours after crossing the Lauribinayak pass (3,920m).
The running group will have all day to make the steep 2,300m ascent to Gosainkund.
Day 8:
Today we will all cross Lauribina Pass together (4,610m), the highest point of the route, then an infinite descent awaits us that will take us from the high mountains to once again enter the tropical forests.
This is the hardest day for the trekking group. Taking into account that many times it is usually done in two comfortable days, we will start walking very early, in order to be able to make the stops that are necessary during the tour. We hope to be able to reach Kutungsang (2,470m) in about 10h.
If someone in the running group has strength left, they win and the conditions are favorable, from the Laauribina neck we can go up to the closest peak: Surya Peak (5,145m). You have to take into account that there is no path and you have to climb through a rocky field.
Day 9:
This is the last day of the tour and we will do it in the Helambu region, the closest to Kathmandu. After breakfast we will divide, but only for a few hours.
The trekking group will descend to Chanaute (1,076m), at the bottom of the nearest valley (3-4h) where a private bus will pick us up and take us to Sundarijal to meet the rest of the group.
Today the running group will carry out an important part of the Helambu trekking, along edges and small towns, to the outskirts of the city of Kathmandu where we will finally meet again.
If we have energy we can go current (about 8km) to the great Stupa of Boudhanath through secondary streets, the rest we can do with our bus.
The great Stupa of Boudhanat is one of the holiest places in Buddhism and also highly revered by Hinduists. It is the largest circular Stupa in Eurasia, and is full of Buddhist schools and Tibetan refugees. The pilgrims must go 3 times around the stupa praying, we will do the same in gratitude for the great trip we will have made.
At night transfer by bus to the hotel.
Day 10:
We can take advantage of the first hour of the morning to make the last purchases. Then they will pick us up at the hotel to take us to the airport.
